Propeller securing tender wins with new clients

Repaying faith – securing wins for new clients

Repaying faith – securing wins for new clients

It’s always nice to get a win for a new client. They have put their faith in us, and sometimes the future of their business, based on our previous credentials, and being able to demonstrate our expertise by securing them a win is a great feeling.

And it’s a feeling we’ve had quite a bit of recently.

One new client has recently informed us that they have progressed to the ITT stage of a reactive maintenance contract after we did the PQQ with them, while we were also successful on our first PQQ with a gas maintenance contractor.

It was our experience in the rail sector that has given confidence to another new client to appoint us to work with them a on a “must win” Network Rail tender.

It’s not just the new clients that put their faith in us though, this week we have heard that one of our are long standing clients has won a responsive repairs and voids framework contract for a County Council. We undertook the entire bid process for them; bid strategy workshops, bid management, bid writing and graphic design. The value is between £1.6m & £2.1m over the 4 year framework term.

Another long-standing client, has recently retained us to work on the ITT on a new build housing framework contract after we helped them with their successful pre-qualification.

We’ve also started working on a new social housing related PQQ with one of our clients based in the Home Counties.

Why marketing is important for the construction industry

Why marketing is important for the construction industry

The construction industry is feeling positive about the future again. In the Markit/CIPS UK Construction PMI for February 51 per cent of firms surveyed anticipate a rise in business activity over the next 12 months. This is great news, but, it also brings new challenges. Now, more than ever, creating a strong brand and communication strategy in order to stand out against the competition, is important for your business.

Marketing helps you stand out from the crowd

Today we are surrounded by marketing messages coming at us from a broad range of streams including direct mailings, email campaigns, websites, social media, catalogues and advertorials. The vast majority of businesses will utilise more than one marketing stream to reach their target audience.

Amongst all of the marketing ‘white noise’ out there, how can you ensure that your business stands out? What is the key to success?

Integrated marketing communications

Integrated marketing is an approach to brand communications where the different modes work together to create a seamless experience for the customer and are presented with a similar tone and style that reinforces the brand’s core message. Its goal is to make all aspects of marketing communication (such as advertising, sales promotion, public relations, direct marketing, personal selling, online communications and social media) work together as a unified force, rather than permitting each to work in isolation, which in turn maximises their cost effectiveness.

Creating a brand is about more than just a logo. Businesses need to look at what makes them different.

  • What are your areas of expertise?
  • Where do your strengths lie?
  • What do you stand for as as a company?

These messages then need to be integrated into your messaging. All of your messaging, regardless of channel. If your clients see the same, consistent message online and in print it helps to reinforce your marketing message and removes unnecessary confusion. This ensures a seamless, unified brand experience which will increase the cost effectiveness of your marketing activities and present a powerful brand to your target demographic.

Creating a distinctive brand is absolutely fundamental to commercial success, especially in a market as fiercely competitive as construction.

Propeller helps client secure contract with Network Rail

Our client is the leading UK rail recruiter, who were looking to become one of just 4 main suppliers who would provide 70% of the contingent labour to Network Rail over the next 5 years. We were approached by the client three months before the intensive tender writing programme commenced. We had previously worked with one of their sister companies on Network Rail’s Electrification tender so they were fully aware of our long history in successfully winning Network Rail tenders. Network rail are introducing new contracts with the aim of transforming their contingent labour workforce into a more professional, fairly remunerated and appropriately trained body of people that they will be able to call upon when the need arises. They are also cutting the number of suppliers from 57 to 20 overall, with four core suppliers providing 70% of the workforce, in an effort to drive better employer behaviours, improve the quality of the supply chain and help ensure that workers are treated fairly. Propeller’s objectives were to ensure that our client demonstrated their core values of health and safety, training, pay and the supply of compliant workers within their bid and that they were all aligned to the objectives set out by Network Rail. Propeller helps client secure labour contract with Network Rail to supply workers over the next five years

Propeller helps client secure labour contract with Network Rail to supply workers over the next five years

Propeller worked with the leading UK rail recruiter, on their bid to become one of just 4 main suppliers of contingent labour to Network Rail over the next 5 years.

In addition to conducting an initial strategic bid workshop with key members of our client’s operational team, we facilitated a number of subsequent bid review sessions. Our specialist rail sector bid writing team provided their team strategic guidance, comprehensive answer plans and throughout the duration of the tender submission we evaluated and improved their technical responses.

The successful bidder first approached Propeller three months before the intensive tender writing programme commenced. We had previously worked with one of their sister companies on Network Rail’s Electrification tender in 2014 so they were fully aware of our long history in successfully winning Network Rail tenders.

Stuart Parkes, Director at Propeller said: “We are delighted and are extremely pleased to have been given the opportunity to work collaboratively with our client and support them on this extremely important contract.

“Our aim was to ensure their core values, expertise and innovative solutions were brought to the forefront of the bid, and were all aligned to the objectives set out by Network Rail.”

The awards will see four core suppliers providing 70% of the workforce, with a cut of suppliers from 57 to 20 overall and is worth an overall £100m to our client.

The CEO of our client commented: “This is the major contingent labour contract for the UK, and will set the standard across the rail industry.

“There is a core emphasis on health and safety, training, pay and the supply of compliant workers; this has been a primary focus for us for the near-four decades we have supplied to the UK rail industry and we fully support this approach, as do our sister companies.”

Nick Elliott, managing director national supply chain, said: “These new contracts are all about transforming our contingent labour workforce into a more professional, fairly remunerated and appropriately trained body of people that we are able to call upon when the need arises.

“The new code of conduct for labour will drive better employer behaviours, improve the quality of the supply chain and help ensure that workers are treated fairly.

“We believe that investing in this important resource will deliver significant safety and performance benefits for the railway as a whole.”

The five year contracts will start on 1st April 2015.
