As part of our commitment to corporate social responsibility, Propeller is pleased to announce that one of our Senior Bid Consultants, Sue Ward, has been selected to be a Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) Construction Ambassador for the Midlands.

Construction Ambassadors provide a positive role model to inspire and motivate young people into seeing the opportunities careers in construction can offer.

Construction Ambassadors attend events arranged by CITB Careers Advisers which include careers conventions and seminars, site visits, activity days and mentoring opportunities.  They give presentations to young people and answer their questions about a life working in construction.

Sue said “I am delighted to have the opportunity to put something back into an industry that has given me so much.  When I was a teenager I had no idea of the enormous range of roles the construction industry offers so I am looking forward to showing young people there really is something for everyone within the construction sector and, through this initiative, helping to attract the brightest and best into our industry”.

Propeller created the brand for Agility Alliance, the joint venture from J. Murphy & Sons and Morrison Utility Services, which is one of two joint ventures to partner with Thames Water in a new alliance to deliver their AMP6 programme and beyond.

This hotly contested framework from Thames Water required six different bid submission delivery deadlines, each one with a strict page limit that required all of the content and information to be tightly controlled and laid out.  Not only were all of these conditions met, but a member of the J Murphy board said that “the presentation of this bid document has set the new bench-mark in terms of bid presentation”.

Working with the bid delivery team at Agility Alliance our in house graphic design team created a brand for the bid that aimed to demonstrate to Thames Water their ability and experience in providing the services they required to keep the water running.

From information supplied by Agility Alliance, whilst working with them both remotely and in-house, we provided a complete bid design service including producing a suite of infographics as part of an extensive specialist bid layout.

The new alliance will deliver £1bn of business over the next 5 years with the possibility to deliver water networks and developer services for up to the next 15 years.

Scape have announced a bidders day in January ahead of inviting firms to pre-qualify for a new national minor works framework. The works and services will comprise all types of building construction works and associated mechanical, electrical and services works and our Bid Response team are the perfect partner if you are looking to win work on this framework.

Over the last 5 years Propeller have helped main contractors and regional contractors pre-qualify and secure work at both a national and regional level. Our most recent success was supporting a client secure one of two places on the £100m Scape contract that covers small contracts in the East Midlands (EMPA).

Sometimes in this industry, even though meticulous plans are put in place, things end up running right down to the wire.  This was the case yesterday, or should I say early hours of this morning, for a “must win” tender we were working on for a multinational main contractor.

We have a long history working with the client, so they knew they could trust us, having successfully provided bid writing consultancy and graphic design on high value contracts over the last 5 years.

And while it is nice to be recognised for our high-level end product, it is equally nice to be appreciated for the hard work and commitment that we deliver to our clients.

Successfully pitched tender for a British based manufacturer

Our client is a British based manufacturer of 3G artificial and synthetic turf pitches, with a national UK delivery presence. They had secured success on the Manufacturer led Artificial Grass Pitch Framework in 2010 and sought to be reappointed as a Framework Operator again in 2014.

When the framework renewal presented itself our client realised that getting on the framework was much more complex this time round with the inclusion of a substantial written quality element within the tender.

Their intention was to bid as a consortium, led by our client, and supported by a leading sports contractor. It quickly became apparent that, with a consortium approach to the tender, and numerous passionate voices contributing opinions, there was a real danger of the key messages being lost in the tender submission.

Recognising the strategic importance to the business of the new framework and concerned that their internal bid process needed significant improvement, their MD approached Propeller for an initial workshop to gauge the most beneficial engagement with the Propeller team.

In reviewing the way in which they undertook the quality bid process, we identified numerous services that would support them in producing a compelling response to the ITT document. Early engagement with the client enabled us to establish a strong rapport, by understanding the challenges that they faced to win the tender.

From Propeller’s point of view the key challenge was co-ordinating the input of multiple contributors with different personnel and company writing styles, a variety of opinions and approaches and harnessing that passion and commitment to create a coherent, readable and high scoring submission.

The services we provided included:

  • reviewing their initial Pre-qualification responses and identifying areas for future improvement
  • managing the tender process, including facilitation of red and final review sessions
  • tender launch workshop and evidence-gathering session to define the deliverables, allocate responders, plan strategy and agree the delivery programme
  • developing a governance model to satisfy the requirement of the Framework and match the client’s administration methods
  • drafting the tender document, including re-writing the client’s directly employed staff submissions
  • creating tailored CVs for key delivery Framework team members
  • creating numerous infographics, defining the client’s process management techniques and including these within the key sections of the document
  • creating innovative and highly informative organograms, incorporating styles and methods unknown to the client
